Hold Tight

As dark clouds appear.
And your mind fills with fear.
Hold tight my dear.
I’ll be with you here.

Hold Something Firmly To Create Safety.
When fearful thoughts begin to take over, we can tumble down into a hopeless and painful place. Many of us try to isolate ourselves as a way to protect ourselves. I have experienced and seen that it is not a helpful long-term plan. It is certainly a great way to calm and reset our nervous systems. Yet many of us can get stuck in isolation and fear. How about instead we look towards creating a place of grounding, perhaps in our loved ones and/or enriching routines and activities.

What would it be like if you set up some routines that grounded you in a sense of security and safety? What if you had a weekly check in with a close friend and talked about your self-care and joyful actions planned for the week? What if you had a ritual, such as taking 3 deep breaths while repeating an uplifting or calming word to yourself, before picked up your phone? What if you volunteered monthly at a community group or non-profit where you could contribute to making a difference in a way that truly matters to you?

What you choose will be unique to you. The goal is to find some “place to land” and hold tight, be it a person or activity. Even when times are scary and dark, we can move forward in life. With a small addition to your day, week, or month you can create some stability and consistency in your life…which might just lead to a mindset of safety, hope, and even joy.
