Playfulness.
I was raised celebrating Christmas and I still do celebrate. However, as an adult the holiday has felt significantly different. As I consider what is different for me, I think about the joy I felt as a young child when every holiday activity was charged with anticipation and bliss. Over the years, my family established traditions to celebrate and express our excitement. Even as teenagers, my siblings and I, expressed our enjoyment by wearing Christmas pajamas to our afternoon extended family gathering. In my adult years, my niece and nephew took over the playfulness. However, as they’ve aged into adults the main source of playfulness is coming from the dogs excitement in being with more people and finding snacks on the floor. That is lovely, but hasn’t met my desire for joy and celebration.
Book Recommendation
If you are like me, you might be needing a little boost of playfulness in your life right now. But if you struggle to come up with ideas I highly recommend the book Play Your Way Sane by Clay Drinko. I read it earlier this year, and have just reserved it from the library to get a refresher in playful ideas to use in the coming weeks. All of the exercises are explained by Clay and inspired by Improv Comedy exercises to help shift focus. If you want a little sampling you could check out his offerings on his website https://www.playyourwaysane.com/
